📖 What the card shows
The Devil, card fifteen, shows two people chained beneath a bat-winged figure. Look closely, though, and the chains around their necks are loose — they could take them off if they decided to. It stands for being held by attachment, addiction or harmful relationships you could actually leave. The card warns not against desire itself but against being dragged around by it.
🔼 Upright meaning
Ask whether there is something you want to quit but cannot: late-night scrolling, habitual shopping, a relationship that drains you — brief pleasures that charge a long price. This card is not trying to scare you; it is pointing out that the chain is looser than you think.
🔽 Reversed meaning
A good sign that you are starting to break free from something that held you. Change begins the moment you realise what was holding you back. You find the strength to quit a harmful habit or end an unhealthy relationship. Ask for support so you do not slide back.
💗 Love
Strong attraction and possessiveness may coexist in this relationship. If excitement and anxiety are both running high, look coolly at whether it actually makes you happy. Jealousy or possessiveness can ruin things. Relationships built on trust last longer than ones built on holding on.
Friends, family and colleagues
Check whether any relationship is draining you. If someone always leaves you exhausted, adjust how often you meet. And ask whether you might be the one holding on to someone else.
💼 Work and money
You may be tied to work you do not want because of short-term gains or conditions. Check whether overwork has become a habit. Financially, be especially wary of temptations like impulse buys, instalment plans and high-risk investments. 'Just this once' is the most dangerous phrase.
🧭 Advice
Give the chain that binds you a tug. It may come loose more easily than you expect.
Questions to ask yourself
- What do you want to quit but cannot?
- What first action would loosen that chain?
